Westminster was founded in 1764…
by William Winchester of England. Winchester acquired much land in the area that led to additional development later on. Another person of interest was Dr. Charles Carroll. Dr. Carroll was also a signer of the Declaration of Independence. He lobbied the Maryland Governor Samuel Ogle to provide tax relief, road building, and to provide funds to stimulate agriculture.
Westminster has much to offer with it’s unique businesses and country charm. Downtown Westminster hosts various events throughout the year including the Flower and Jazz Festival and FallFest. The Carroll Arts Center consists of a theater and 2 art galleries. This area has become quite appealing to homebuyers, as it exhibits a fine mix of country charm and modern amenities. In addition, McDaniel College has also made it’s home in Westminster. McDaniel is a liberal arts and sciences college. It’s roots date back to 1867 when it was Western Maryland College. Westminster is also in a prime location and is only about 35 minutes from Baltimore. Employment opportunities are vast, with the top employers being Carroll County Public Schools and McDaniel College. Westminster is truly a wonderful place to consider when looking for a home!
