Maryland State Parks

With the hotter months approaching (slowly, but surely), it is time to start thinking of places to go to soak up the hot, summer sun. Maryland is full of glorious parks – some with mountain views, some with beaches, and some with trails. There are a ton of parks across the state of Maryland, but these 12 State Parks are guaranteed to knock your socks off. Might be worth taking a day trip!

Patapsco Valley State Park

Location: 8020 Baltimore National Pike, Ellicott City, MD 21043

Extending along 32 miles of the Patapsco River, this park is nationally known for its trail opportunities and scenery.

Tuckahoe State Park

Tuckahoe Creaak, a quiet country stream bordered for most of its length by wooded marshlands, runs through the length of the park. The park offers 20 miles of scenic hiking, biking and equestrian trails, flat water canoeing, hunting, picnicking, as well as a recycled tire playground for children.

Gambrill State Park

A beautiful mountain park, located on the ridge of the Catoctin Mountains in Frederick County. Its most popular feature is the 16 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.

Assateague State Park

Assateague State Park is Maryland’s only oceanfront park. It is located on Assateague Island, a barrier island bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Sinepuxent Bay on the west. Its two miles of ocean beaches offer swimming, beachcombing, sunbathing, surfing and fishing. The bayside offers visitors the chance to explore secluded coves by canoe or kayak. The marsh areas have a variety of wildlife, including deer, waterfowl and feral horses.

Seneca Creek State Park

The park extends 14 scenic miles along the Seneca Creek, as it winds its way into the Potomic River. Picnicking, boat rentals, trails and a tire playground are just a few of its recreational opportunities.

Who knew a place like this existed in Maryland? The grand lake is one of the amazing features of Deep Creek Lake State Park. It is a popular location for water sports, fishing & mountain biking.

Janes Island State Park

Located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Janes Island offers its visitors beautiful views of the Chesapeake Bay. Within the mainland portion of the park are the campground, rental cabins and conference center, picnic areas and pavilions, and the boat ramp and marina.

Calvert Cliff State Park

The massive cliffs inspired the parks name, which dominate the shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay for about 24 miles. The park features sandy beaches, recycled tire playground, and unique fossils.

Greenbelt Park

Just twelve miles from Washington, D.C., Greenbelt Park is located in suburban Greenbelt, Maryland. The park features a 174 site campground with specific site reservations, nine miles of trails, and three picnic areas.
